Cards that comply with EMV standard contain certificates and cryptographic keys which are used when the card is used by the cardholder to perform operations, assuring the integrity and data confidentiality, apart from authenticating each of the parties involved in the operation/transaction (cardholder, acquirer and issuer). The technological capabilities of the chip and the operating system used determine the smartcard price depending on multiple parameters (memory capacity, cryptographic possibilities, programming language, …) and condition its possible applications.
The responsibility shift which is applicable after the limit date defined by the European networks for EMV migration, conditions the requirements for Issuing and Acquiring organizations to study the migration impact in card personalization and issuing processes as well as in acquiring operations through proprietary or associated POS terminals.
Within this context, RT offers consulting services to organizations interested in familiarizing with the migration impact and to define a plan to evolve towards EMV, with clearly defined objectives, listed below:
• Analyze the different EMV models to be considered depending on the strategy defined by the organization, and the alternative plans which can adjust most effectively to the proposed requirements of the organization.
• Determine the applications which could be affected with the different EMV migration models, and evaluate the impact on each of them based on effort required and cost involved.
• Define the action plan to be accomplished in order to start the project.
The final decision about which EMV migration model, and the scope to be accomplished in following phases, will be adapted by the organization depending on the advantages/disadvantages of the different proposals, and the estimated timeframe of each of them.

Presentation of EMV options and study of the expectations of “An Organization“ regarding Payment Systems and EMV.
The aim of this activity is to obtain, through the analysis of possibilities and requirements of EMV specifications in qualitative terms, the perspectives of the organization according to its application, zones of the Payment Systems structure which are to be considered, the incidence level within these zones and the guidelines to be marked by the development of this study.
Study of EMV impact on the central payment systems (Own Credit System, device management, authorization system) and its interaction with corporative applications and services.
The objective of this activity is to obtain a list of functional modifications required for the payment system applications which provide support to card management systems (CMS) and to authorization centre. This work provides a functional impact analysis on the mentioned central systems, due to the novelty and modifications of operative functionality and by the technological incidences derived from EMV requirements:
Study of operative areas related to Payment Systems and with EMV evolution.
The goal of this activity is to detect the required modifications to the operative structure of Payment Systems of “An Organization” to cover the new requirements derived from EMV migration according to the expectations and guidelines of the organization.
Study of data and the migration alternatives: Defining an action plan.
During the progress of this activity, through analysis of the data obtained in the previous stages, different possibilities are compared in order to deal with modifications required to reach the evolution towards EMV. From this work, you can obtain the migration alternative which adjusts more efficiently to the organizations requirements and the action plan will be defined corresponding to the selected migration strategy.
The action plan consists of activity planning and presentation of different actors and resources involved in this evolution. Similarly, an effort estimate preview will be calculated for the development of the defined action plan.
